MARQUETTE, Mich., March 21, 2019 – mBank is proud to announce a donation of $25,000 to the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) generated through its social giving back campaign. From December 1, 2018 through February 15, 2019, $100 was set aside for each new qualifying CD, checking, savings, or money market account opened at an Upper Peninsula mBank branch. Additionally, mBank sponsored two adoption days at UPAWS on December 20, 2018 and February 14, 2019 where all adoption fees were covered by the bank, collected shelter supplies at each of its U.P. branches, and launched a social media campaign on Facebook where every new page “like” mBank received during the promotion equaled an additional $1 donation to UPAWS.
“UPAWS is an organization very near and dear to the hearts of so many employees and their families at mBank,” said Kelly W. George, mBank President and CEO. “The new shelter and all of the resources UPAWS provides is incredible and we want to thank our community members and customers so much that helped by bringing in various supplies for the shelter throughout the campaign. We are very happy to be able to give back to an organization that does so much for much needed animal welfare in our communities.”
“We were so ecstatic when mBank called to tell us the campaign generated a $25,000 donation,” explained Kori Tossava, UPAWS Executive Director/Capital Campaign Manager. “The campaign also resulted in 45 animal adoptions and hundreds of shelter supplies donated. In light of the tremendous success the social campaigned generated, we have offered mBank naming recognition on a Canine Companion Real Life Room at UPAWS. Real life rooms provide a homelike setting that help the shelter staff to assess more accurately how a shelter dog reacts when left home alone. These rooms also help animals feel more ‘at home’ then in a cage. It takes a cooperative spirit to fulfill the goal of a shelter that serves our animal companion needs and the community as a whole, and we are grateful to mBank for their support.”
UPAWS performs the crucial role of finding homes for homeless animals as well as reuniting lost pets with their families and is a leader in the no-kill movement. They consistently reach an award-winning 98% Save Rate. Services for the community include low cost spay/neuter services, microchip placement, humane education, law enforcement services, a food bank, and end of life services including meeting cost effective pet needs for low-income residents of Marquette County. UPAWS is a charitable 501c3 organization and is solely reliant on donations. For more information or to make a donation please visit upaws.org.
